Émiettement scriptural ou esthétique du chaos dans Mumbo Jumbo : rupture dans la construction romanesque

All chaotic situations are not necessarily productive of disorder. Some can lead to an order that is not apparent at the beginning. The conflicting relationships between African and Western civilizations in America as described in Mumbo Jumbo by Ishmael Reed lead to a scriptural fragmentation and to an aesthetic of the chaos. By leaning on the theory of the chaos as a study of shocking phenomena that are today omnipresent in all the sectors of activity, this paper shows that Reed’s work is a literary puzzle, a construction by parts that breaks with the traditional form of novelistic construction. In so doing, Reed’s writing constitutes an aesthetic of the chaos.
