Résumé / Abstract

By focusing on the interaction between many «possible words» (among which the physical and the fantastic ones) in Kourouma’s Les Soleils des indépendances, this study will show that Kourouma’s writing is a hybridization of two opposing mindsets. If Fama seems to be stuck in the traditional Africa, his irruption into the modernity respond to the quest of the balance, a quest which is the author’s own as he writes Africa in a foreign language. This translation imposes a bending of the rules of both the language and the realism in order for these opposing mindsets to coexist in the same literary universe.
